LIVE RESULTS: The 2013 PH Party-list race

MANILA, Philippines - This dynamic infographic rendered votes received for the partylist based on the live data feed the Rappler Mirror Server received from the Transparency Server of the Commission on Elections.

From May 13 to May 18, 2013, this infographic was updated real-time. The time lapse bar automatically generated new snapshots as each new batch of results was received.

Drag the time lapse bar from left to right to view snapshots at particular points of the transmission process. Hover over each bubble to find out where the party list group got bulk of its votes at that point in time.

Party-list formula

The party-list system is a mechanism for proportional representation in the election of representatives to the Philippine House of Representatives. Under the law, groups that captured 2 % or more of total votes cast for the party-list are guaranteed seats in the House.

The 1987 Philippine Constitution requires that 20 % of the House seats should be filled up through the partylist. Since 1998, the Comelec has already used 3 different formulas in determining the number of seats to be allocated to a party list group in order to fulfill this constitutional requirement. More details on this story: How to fill the 58 party-list seats.

ERRATUM: For earlier snapshots, the figure displayed on this page as "total votes cast for the party list" was erroneously sourced from total votes cast nationwide. This affected how the visualization rendered groups that made the 2 % cut-off. The query has been corrected. We apologize for the error.

Unofficial vs Official Results

Results displayed on this infographic are PARTIAL and UNOFFICIAL. The OFFICIAL RESULTS, which are used as basis for the proclamation of winners, are those transmitted by the voting machines to the Municipal Board of Canvassers and eventually to the National Board of Canvassers.

The official canvass overtook the unofficial tally early night of Friday, May 17, after the NBOC tallied results from all of the top 10 vote-rich provinces.

Rappler concluded its real-time tally of the results on May 18, 2013, after the Commission on Elections proclaimed the remaining winners for the Senatorial race.

Unfortunately, only 76 % of the 80,000 voting machines distributed in voting precincts nationwide were able to successfully transmit results to the Comelec Transparency Server. Rappler joins other parties in petitioning the Comelec for access to the precinct level results that were not transmitted. We will also petition for the release of system logs that will help us track both the date and time the results from each precinct were received. - Rappler.com
